Ninos Adelante and it’s accompanying youth program Jovenes Adelante is a long term project of The Oaxaca Lending Library in Oaxaca, Mexico. It is aimed at children from homes of limited income where access to books and computers is non-existent. Starting with six children in 2005 we have now grown to a base of over 200 children and teenagers who are growing up with reading for fun being a part of their life. We meet every Saturday, building a love of reading, strengthening self confidence and teaching basic English through song, play and crafts. Story time and computer access are also part of the program. Saturday mornings have become known as the children’s time at the library. Please drop by any time to see for yourself the work we are doing.
When the library closes at 1 pm we pack up all our supplies and any of the teenagers who want to volunteer and head over to The Casa Hogar Hijos de la Luna , a group home for neglected and abused children of low income women (many prostitutes) in Oaxaca. There we repeat much of the same program from the morning but also include exercise and sports activities, particularly with the older children.
For the last six years we have spent all day long, every Saturday, working to improve the lives of the children of Oaxaca and now I need your help. If you are able, please consider making a donation to the Ninos Adelante and Jovenes Adelante project.
You can make a donation through PayPal by going to our website and clicking on the “How you can donate” line.
